IRS Operations during the lapse in appropriations

Due to the current lapse in appropriations, the IRS on Monday released a memo describing the scope of the limited operations they would be offering  until normal government functions are restored.  In the memo, the IRS assured the American taxpayer that the “underlying tax laws remain in effect and all taxpayers should continue to meet their tax obligations as normal”.  Sorry Folks!

There will be no live telephone customer service assistance and tax examinations (audits) appointments are canceled and will be rescheduled.  However, automated IRS notices will continue uninterrupted.

The IRS asks that taxpayers continue to file your tax returns and pay any tax liabilities as normal.  All tax deadlines remain in effect for individuals, partnerships and corporations.  Not surprisingly, the IRS will not be issuing refunds at this time.
