After four years in the military Ed graduated from Portland State University with a BS in Business Administration in 1978. After several successful years in sales, Ed went back to PSU to complete the educational requirements to become a CPA and immediately went to work for a local CPA firm. Wanting the challenges and freedoms of owning his own business he opened his own practice in 1991. Ed believes, “there is no better way to discuss the struggles of small business ownership, then to be an owner yourself”. You know the personal highs and lows that come with the territory.
Ed is much more than just a CPA, he views his approach as “holistic”. He enjoys working with his clients, exploring ideas and opportunities in regard to tax or financial issues.
In 2001, Oregon CPAs were allowed to further develop their ability to do personal financial planning. As a result of this, Ed formed a second company EWS Financial Services Inc. to focus solely on providing personal financial planning to his clients. He then obtained the additional CPA credential of PFS (Personal Financial Specialist) which is the CPA equivalence to the CFP held by many financial advisors. Ed has his 7 Series License, has been involved in numerous outside activities, the most recent as a member of the Board of Directors for the Oregon Water Trust.
Ed is a native Oregonian, and when not in the office he can probably be found on his bike. An avid cyclist, he rides to work whenever possible. His new activity is the triathlon, which incorporates his love of the bike, along with running and swimming.
